So tonight on channel 9, they’re showing the made for TV version of
Alice in Wonderland made in 1995. Ordinarily, this would be something I’d watch, considering it was made by the same team who did the TV versions of
Jack in the Beanstalk and
Snow White, which were all funny and entertaining and visually stunning. However, I’d watched the first half an hour of
Alice back when it was originally aired, and I’d hated it for no other reason than the little girl who plays Alice is obnoxious and bratty and just one of those kids you want to thump in the face.
You wouldn’t literally do it, of course.
But you sure want to.
So tonight I had made an appointment to miss it again, and for the past hour since it started I’ve been doing just that. The TV was set to mute, and I was writing on my laptop, occasionally flicking my gaze back to Alice to confirm that, yes, I still do hate that kid with a fiery passion.
I was even casually thinking as I typed, that the little girl was bitchy because she was one of those horrific child actresses, and now she’s gotten her comeuppance because it’s 10 years later and she’s probably a heroin addicted wash out who can’t even get cast in bad porn. I won’t lie – the thought made me happy.
But then! And you knew this was going somewhere didn’t you? Suddenly, another casual glance, and I don’t know what was different about this one, but I look and realise that she bears a striking resemblance to someone I’ve seen recently. So I take an extended look - and it hits me.
It’s freaking Tina Majorino!
I double checked on IMDB and yes! It’s my beloved Mac 11 years ago, as the loathed Alice. Who’s apparently
not drug addicted and jobless.
And despite this revelation, I still kinda wanna thump her in the face…
…Maybe a
little less now.
